Children’s Welfare Society, Khotang
This organisation recognises that children are disproportionately affected by conflict. Through training programmes in peace-related activities, it aims to teach children to solve conflicts without resorting to violence.
Overview
The Children’s Welfare Society (CWS) is a human rights organisation devoted to peace registered in Khotang district administration office. CWS is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (a government organisation which regulates and manages Non-Governmental Organisations).
Since the beginning of the Maoist conflict, the Nepalese people (including children) have been exposed to violence and violence has become the main means to solve differences and disputes. As a result of this, CWS tries to foster a culture of peace through its initiatives.
What Services Are Provided?
The organisation works in three areas: training, education, and the building of peace networks. CWS provides training on conflict transformation, peace-building, and human rights. It has also made people aware of peace through informal peace classes. The Peace Council was established in the district by CWS as an institution of peace.
