Sudan Catholic Bishops Regional Conference

SCBRC is a wide-ranging organisation working towards the alleviation of the conflict in South Sudan.

Overview

SCBRC was formed in 1997 and works in the five dioceses of South Sudan. It aims to address the devastation caused in the south of the country by the conflict through a variety of means: working for an effective implementation of the CPA; encouraging the peaceful resolution of conflicts; promoting education and development as an alternative to aid reliance; and supporting the spiritual needs of the communities while developing relations between the Church and the government.

Its activities include civic education, conflict resolution training, capacity-building among local leaders, advocacy and lobbying especially with regard to the CPA, and counselling services for returning IDPs. It has established Justice and Peace Structures in three of the five dioceses in southern Sudan, training leaders and personnel and setting up networks to give local leaders access to political authorities.
