The foundation, hopes to soon launch a project “Sadako Foundation’s Peace Educational Network (STPEN) so as to set up a network of education schools for the children in earthquake affected areas of Azad Kashmir. These children will be provided with opportunities to obtain unbiased education on the importance of global friendships and peace. First school of this project is under construction in Chela Bandi, Muzaffarabad.
The name of the Sadako Foundation is inspired by life of Sadako Sasaki, a Japanese girl from Hiroshima who died from leukemia in 1955, but only after inspiring those around her with her bravery. Since 1958 there has been a statue of Sadako in the Hiroshima Peace Park, and her story is the inspiration for the Sadako Foundation. Her full story can be read on their site: http://www.sadakofoundation.org/sadako_story.html
