Peacebuilding and Accountability Promotion in the Karnali Zone
An initiative working towards sustainable peace in Nepal by documenting and monitoring human rights abuses.
Description
The programme has been developed to raise awareness of peace, human rights and humanitarian laws among the conflicting parties (state and rebels), as well as among local people.
Aims / Objectives
The programme aims to create an environment conducive to peace, and to build the capacity of communities to protect and promote basic human rights in the Karnali zone.
How it is Articulated
- Compiling data on human rights violations, particularly in connection with the conflict;
- Organising peace rallies;
- Publishing pamphlets on peace and human rights; and
- Facilitating and mediating the rehabilitation of conflict victims.
Achievements / Learning Points
KIRDARC has been organising peace rallies and publishing pamphlets supporting peace. It has started to compile documentation of human rights violations and filing these cases. The Centre has played a key role as a mediator in the rehabilitation of displaced people.
