People's Peace Front

The coalition of the People's Peace Front brings together about 200 organisations to work collaboratively on raising public awareness of the issues surrounding conflict resolution in Sri Lanka. They work towards creating a dialogue between ethnically segregated communities and help to promote inter-ethnic understanding and sensitivity.

Overview

People's Peace Front are a coalition of 200 organisations that conduct peace related activities in Sri Lanka. They formed believing that united they are more powerful in achieving their shared objectives. They work in a variety of ways but always aiming for a sustainable peace in Sri Lanka.

Their main objective is to build awareness among the public that the solution to the ethnic conflict has to be through a negotiated settlement that addresses the grievances of both communities. They work with different groups of people, including schools, grassroots organisations,  and media representatives. Awareness raising programs take different approaches such as workshops, seminars, public speeches, rallies, walks, poster campaigns, and celebrating religious festivals together.

They have learnt that networking among different organisations working for peace is important in minimising duplication of work. Furthermore, it is important since it permits the sharing of resources and enables each other to learn from expertises unique to different organisations.
