New Sudanese Indigenous NGOs Network (NESI network)

NESI is a network of NGOs, created to strengthen civil society and develop its role in Sudan's decision-making processes.

Overview

NESI is a network of 67 local member organisations operating in various sectors within Southern and New Sudan, with a focus on strengthening the voice of civil society. The general aims and objectives are to strengthen the role of civil society in political processes by:

Specifically in relation to peacebuilding, NESI works to involve civil society in the peace process and advocates for a greater role for civil society in decision-making processes.

NESI participated in the drafting of the current Southern Sudan constitution and currently is making proposals as regards civil society law to the Government of South Sudan. NESI Network was also actively involved in the processes that culminated in the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement for Sudan.

Forum for member organisations to raise issues; information exchange; advocacy for role of civil society in political processes; helping members secure resources.

Geographical area of operation

The Secretariat has two offices; one in Nairobi and another in Juba. Member organisations operate in all the 10 states of Southern Sudan.
