Isiolo Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee
This organisation facilitates dialogue between communities in conflict in Isiolo. It has also collaborated with the Kenyan government on gun collection schemes.
Overview
Isiolo Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee is a structured peace organisation that works towards creating dialogue between ethnically segregated communities in Isiolo District, so as to reduce tension between them.
The committee coordinates peace work and identifies opportunities for cooperation with other actors promoting peace in the district. Since inception, the committee has intervened in many conflicts, preventing their possible escalation or mitigating their harmful effects. Isiolo, unlike before, is now more peaceful.
The committee has also been involved in the collection of guns from those willing to volunteer their surrender. In doing this, it works closely with the government.
The committee has learnt that for any rapid response initiative to succeed, there must be a collaborative effort by all stakeholders, and must rely upon local knowledge and perspectives.
