Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES)

HURPES aims at promoting peaceful methods of conflict resolution, and seeks to address the human rights violations committed by the conflicting parties in Nepal.

Overview

HURPES conducts research and organises regular nationwide campaigns and rallies for human rights, peace and non-violence. It is a non-political, non-profit and independent volunteer organisation aimed at promoting peace, human rights and democracy in Nepal through non-violent means.

The organisation aims to create a culture where human rights and peace prevail. It believes that the conflict parties have committed mass human rights violations and have ignored peaceful means of conflict resolution. HURPES therefore aims to pressure the conflicting parties, through peace rallies and the documentation of human rights violations, to declare a ceasefire and start dialogue for resolution for the Maoist conflict.

The Human Rights and Peace Society organises regular campaigns and rallies to promote people’s awareness of human rights, peace and non-violence. It has been campaigning strongly against human rights violations in connection with the internal armed conflict. Cases of human rights violations have been publicised almost nationwide, raising people’s awareness of them. The view of the organisation is that the conflict should be resolved through peaceful means and it has been campaigning strongly for this.
