Green Peace Campaign (GPC)

The organisation has been working on the protection of human rights, which it believes are essential for peace in Nepal.

Overview

Green Peace Campaign has been working for the protection and promotion of human rights since 1996. It has expanded its areas of work to include the establishment of peace, as the impact of conflict has been immense, and most of the victims have been civilians. Currently, the organisation is running a programme focusing on human rights and peace.

The aims of the organisation are:

  • to make people aware of human rights;
  • to facilitate discussion between the conflicting parties over local issues in their respective areas;
  • to make the conflicting parties publish the people’s agendas for peace in their respective areas;
  • to help rehabilitate conflict victims.

GPC has also been working to raise awareness of the causes of armed conflict in Nepal, and to promote non-violent means of conflict resolution. This has involved coordinated activities by the conflicting parties to address local issues, in the belief that there can be no military solution to the conflict. The organisation has also been providing rehabilitation services, especially legal assistance, to the conflict victims.
