Fundación Gamma IDEAR - Fungamma

Fundgamma have been working with NGOs, civil society organisations, and government bodies to increase co-operation between them, develop policy, increase awareness, and build capacity throughout the groups. Their work has resulted in an improvement in the organisations' ability to address the issues of human security, the preservation of live, and peace and disarmament in Colombia.

Overview

Fungamma was established on the 4th April 1997 and was created to promote development and the harmonious co-existence of individuals, groups, and organisations. It aims to allow these three to increase their capacity to transform their own environment in accordance with their ideals.

It seeks to include all people and groups on an equal footing, regarless of their ideology, political affiliation, race, ethinicity, age, gender or sexual orientation (GAMMA: Greek word for diversity).

Since its establishment the Foundation has worked with official, private, and civil society organisations in the areas of:

  • Human security and disarmament;
  • Conflict resolution;
  • Street violence;
  • School violence;
  • Family, couple and children’s violence;
  • Peace Education;
  • Sexual education with a gender perspective; and
  • Institutional and social networks (functional and virtual).

In 1997 Fungamma designed MOSSAVI - a model of social stress applied to the prevention and alleviation of every-day violence. This model was implemented across the District between 1997 and 2004 to deal with social and family violence.

Since 2001 Fungamma has led and co-ordinated the ARIANSA network: an Andean network of NGOs and civil society organisations working for human security, the preservation of life, a culture of peace, and disarmament (working with organisations across international borders in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela).
