Danfe Yuba Club

Danfe Yuba Club promotes economic advancement through training, working on the premise that young Nepalis will be less likely to get involved in armed conflict if they can engage in and support themselves through economic activity.

Overview

Danfe Yuba Club, based in Jajarkot District, was established to work in income generation, human rights and peace. During the conflict, human rights violations have been committed frequently by both of the warring parties. Poor economic conditions and a lack of knowledge of human rights and peace mean that local people have been victimised.

The Club's aim is to raise people’s awareness of peace through training on tools and techniques for peaceful conflict resolution, and to protect them from involvement in the conflict by providing them with the skills to earn a livelihood. This consists of enabling people to develop and sustain work opportunities through income generation and skill programmes, and health improvement at the local level through health camps. The organisation has realised that the only way to resolve the internal armed conflict in Nepal is through dialogue and implementing policy at the local level.

The Danfe Yuba Club has launched youth employment programmes with the aim of preventing young people becoming involved in violent activities and the armed conflict by providing them with employment opportunities in order to sustain their lives. Due to unemployment many youths have been involving themselves in armed conflict. The organisation has been implementing income generation and skill development training and providing monetary support to help establish and run their business. The organisation has also launched conflict transformation and peacebuilding training (tools and techniques for dialogue, mediation and negotiation) to promote the practice of non-violent means of resolving differences and disputes. Furthermore, it conducted Training of Trainers on Human Rights and Conflict Transformation to the local members of civil society and local political people.
