COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale

Active in 31 countries and with 90 seperate development projects, this organisation works on a global scale to guarantee basic human rights to those affected by conflict. By securing them with safe drinking water, providing them with training and education they work towards peace in the communities.

Overview

COOPI is an independent non-governmental organization, founded in Italy, committed to fighting against social injustice and poverty in developing countries and to building a future that guarantees everyone adequate living conditions, equal opportunities, and respect for their rights. Since 1965 COOPI has carried out more than 600 development projects and emergency interventions in 50 countries in co-operation with more than 30,000 local workers, ensuring direct benefit to more than 50 million people. In Africa, Latin America, Asia and in Eastern Europe COOPI promotes the rights of access to water, and proper health and education services in poorer communities, and gives immediate and long-term aid to populations hit by war or natural disasters. They are now working in 31 countries carrying out over 90 development projects and emergency intervention. Their budget is certified by an external accounting agency. The 2005 Total Balance was 35.608.863 Euro. 93.2% was used for projects in the developing countries and 6.8% for financing the organisation.

What Services Are Provided?

• Training courses for volunteers - empowering people through educational and professional training. In Italy they promote awareness and knowledge on the causes of the severe inequalities between the North and the South of the world, through initiatives of advocacy, information, and specific training.
