AZZA Women’s Association AYA
This Sudanese organisation works to empower and train vulnerable individuals within the IDP community in alternatives to violence and conflict resolution techniques. It is committed to helping establish peace in selected IDP communities and spread this peace throughout the Sudan.
Overview
AZZA has successfully extended its model of peace camps for young people and women within the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) communities. AZZA has organised conferences at a number of different places, teaching around fifty participants how to live in peace. These participants, after receiving AZZA’s training, travel from Khartoum throughout the Sudan. There is a constant danger that intolerance and a lack of understanding between IDPs of different tribes will lead to a renewed eruption of violent conflict. AZZA therefore strives to enhance non-violence conflict resolution techniques as well as instilling a sense of hope and a belief in a peaceful future within the IDP communities and the greater Sudanese population.
