Amel Voluntary Women's Association

This organisation empowers women to engage in conflict resolution and teaches women and girls how to deal with the post-conflict security and economic situation in the Dilling area.

Overview

The aims of the organisation are:

  • To develop and build the capacity of women to solve economic troubles that they face which were brought by conflict;
  • To work on changing the things that come as a result of war e.g. carrying guns everywhere you go;
  • Raise health awareness; and
  • Peace-building, (achieving peaceful coexistence) part of which is teaching people about the CPA (Comprehensive Peace Agreement).

We implemented projects for each of these aims in Kadogli or Dilling.

What Services Are Provided?

  • Training for women on hand-made work to help solve their economic problems;
  • Lectures using simple language on the CPA (there are so many people who do not know about the CPA as it is written in legal language which is difficult to understand);
  • First aid courses; and
  • A school for girls who have been married and want to complete their learning. We started with 7 classes containing 401 girls.

Geographical Area of Operation

Nuba Mountains, Dilling, and the villages surrounding Dilling.
