Nari Sewa Kendra (Women’s Service Centre)

An organisation with broad aims to advance the peace process in Nepal by building the capacity of women to partake in all sectors of society.

Overview

Nari Sewa Kendra aims to increase the economic empowerment of women through income generation programmes, raising awareness of human rights and peace issues, developing female leadership and establishing peace networks.

It aims to do this by getting women involved in public domains such as the peace movement. It also aims to create human rights awareness and establish peace through raising people's understanding of non-violent means of conflict transformation and peacebuilding.

Nari Sewa Kendra has been implementing income generation and skill development programmes to teach women how to sustain themselves economically. The organisation strongly believes that the economic empowerment of women reduces the chances of them becoming victims of domestic violence and opens up the possibility of their involvement in the public domain, including peace activities.

It has been campaigning for peace by conducting training on conflict transformation and human rights and has also established a civil society network for peace at the local level.
