Public library on peace studies in Nepal

The library initiative aims to educate local people about the conflict in Nepal by providing an easily accessible wealth of relevant information.

Description

The library is the first of its kind in Nepal. It has a large range of books, periodicals, magazines, journals, newspapers and reports on various issues related to conflict transformation, peace building, strategic studies, war, terrorism, conflict and human rights. It is open from 11 am to 4 pm Sunday to Friday except on public holidays.

Furthermore, research carried out by FFP  related to conflict and peace has been published and made available at the library.

Aims / Objectives

The organisation aims to work continuously to establish and support peace in Nepal.

How it is Articulated

The books are constantly being updated and a computerised database has been installed in the library to facilitate access to the materials. The library has internet and e-mail access for its users. It has also started the process of acquiring all the materials produced in Nepal concerning conflict, peace and human rights.

The FFP have conducted research on different issues and have implemented an interactions programme related to the Maoist conflict and its peaceful resolution in Nepal.

Achievements / Learning Points

Students, researchers, politicians and social activists are using the library. Research in some sectors has been gaining an increasingly high profile. These sectors include:
