The project has been designed to protect the human rights of local people in general, and in particular during the conflict, and obliges the conflicting parties to respect humanitarian laws. The project also aims to make people aware of non-violent means of conflict resolution and provides legal assistance to conflict victims.
The aims of the initiative are:
Training and workshops on human rights and non-violent means of conflict transformation and peacebuilding; interaction and awareness programmes; conferences, meetings and peace rallies.
Local people have gradually become aware of human rights and humanitarian laws, and they have been putting pressure on the conflicting parties to respect these rights and laws during conflict. Awareness of non-violent means for conflict resolution has been raised at the grassroots level, and there has been considerable enthusiasm to learn more about the tools and techniques of conflict transformation and peacebuilding. Conflict victims have also been able to make their grievances public.
