Peacebuilding and water services

A project to integrate the provision of water and the protection of human rights by minimising conflict over the resource.

Description

With the help of the French Embassy and CONCERN, SUDO began the project in September 2004 in West Kordofan State, Abyei Province and Almuglad locality. The aim is to integrate peacebuilding and human rights advocacy with the provision of water services, by minimising the possibilities of conflict over water resources. It aims to achieve this through provision of sufficient water for both human and animals; by raising awareness within the communities of human rights and peaceful coexistence; and by improving health through the provision of adequate potable water. A deep borehole has been dug and is to be equipped with a submersible pump. Training sessions in its use have been held.

Geographical area of operation

Kordofan.

Funding resources

French Embassy and CONCERN.
