Peace and Child Group

This Nepali initiative mobilises and trains children's groups to promote a culture of respect for peace and for children's rights. The programme helps these groups resolve community disputes, organise street plays, and seek to develop children as peace lovers.

Description

Seto Guras Bal Bikash Sewa (SGBVS) developed the "Peace and Child Group" initiative to make children aware of peace at their school age, to involve them in activities that promote peace, to involve them in solving local differences through peaceful means, and to make them aware of children's rights. The initiative also aims to develop children as peace lovers. Children have been directly involved in cases of rights violation, and have organised meetings, seminars, workshops and trainings.

Four children's groups have been formed in SGBVS' working area, with around 100 school children participating in the groups. Each group has around 25 children. Each group has received children's rights and leadership training. In addition, each group has been trained on peaceful means for conflict resolution such as dialogue, negotiation and mediation.
