Katwal Radio Programme

A series of radio shows broadcast across Nepal with the aim of raising awareness of human rights issues.

The initiative has been developed to raise people's awareness of human rights, social justice and peace through the broadcasting of radio programmes.

To increase awareness amongst Dalit and non-Dalit people about basic human rights, social justice and peace.

Achievements / Learning Points

The Jagaran Media Centre broadcasts a community radio magazine, called Katwal ('Rural Communicator'). The aim of the radio programme is to create awareness amongst Dalit and non-Dalit people, mainly at the grassroots level, about basic human rights (legal and social rights, freedom, education and peace). So far it has broadcast more than 26 episodes of the radio programme on different radio stations around the country. Research recently conducted by the JMC indicates that the radio programme is gaining increasing popularity at the local level.
