Income Generating Programme for Conflict Victims

The initiative aims to re-integrate Nepali conflict victims into society by helping them progress economically.

Description

The programme has been developed with the belief that conflict victims should be resettled in their own environment both economically and socially. The organisation has also realised that poverty and unemployment should be decreased in order to prevent people becoming involved in violence.

Aims / Objectives

The organisation aims to sustain conflict victims, former members of Maoist militias and those living in extreme poverty both economically and socially, and to minimise peoples' incentive to become involved in the Maoist conflict by providing income generation programmes.

How it is Articulated

  • Providing training, livestock and land for goat farming;
  • leasing land and providing seeds and training for vegetable farming;
  • providing veterinary training for Animals Health workers.

Achievements / Learning Points

A total of 430 people have benefited from the income generation programmes. Out of this number, 12 people are conflict victims and 2 are former members of Maoist militias.

The organisation has been providing non-monetary material support to the people. Goats have been supplied to those who have been running goat farms. Similarly land has been leased for the people who have been undertaking vegetable-farming. The two former militia members have become examples of success as they are now running a veterinary business after taking training as Village Animals Health Workers.
