The programme has been developed to enhance children's rights and minimise the violation of these rights during conflict. An additional aim is to raise voices for the minimisation of the impact of conflict on civilians.
The initiative aims to accomplish the following:
The organisation has formed 16 children’s clubs (5 in schools and 11 in the community) and mobilised them to protest against violations of children’s rights, including those connected with the armed conflict. The clubs have been pressuring the conflicting parties not to impact upon infrastructure important to children’s lives such as schools, roads, and health centres etc.
The children’s clubs have published information posters in connection with their advocacy for the protection and promotion for children's rights. The clubs have been included in training and workshops on conflict transformation and peacebuilding.
HUREC has conducted interaction programmes between the combatants and the conflict victims in their respective areas and have asked the conflicting parties to compensate those affected.
The organisation has come to believe that peoples’ agendas should be addressed in negotiation and that conflict victims should be ensured justice. It maintains that without these factors, peace negotiations will not be successful.
