Sustainable Peace for Human Rights and Media

This initiative seeks to improve relationships between different sectors of Nepali society with the ultimate aim of promoting respect for human rights.

Description

The project has developed the realisation that without respecting human rights, peace is not sustainable. The programme includes group formation within the community that includes people of all political ideologies; training programmes on human rights, humanitarian laws and conflict resolution processes; poster production; interaction; and occasional campaigning on human rights and peace.

Aims / Objectives

Building a sustainable peace with respect for human rights within the community.

How it is Articulated

Training on human rights, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, poster production at the community level, campaigning for human rights and peace.

Achievements / Learning Points

  • People have gradually become aware of human rights from the grassroots level;
  • journalists have been developing their writing skills at the local level;
  • local people have been increasing their capacity for lobbying on human rights cases and for peace;
  • people have started working collectively and networks have been developed where the programme has been implemented.

Mostly in Nepal's mid and far-western regions.

National and Local: 4 district (Sindhuli, Gorkha, Dang and Kailali) branch organisations of IHRICON. It has networking with most of the human rights and media organisations in Nepal, Alliance Nepal, Civic Solidarity for Peace, Beyond Beijing Committee, Women Peace Network, Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Nepal Press Institute.
