Overview
Based in Tikapur in Kailali district, HURADC works primarily on human rights issues focusing on ex-Kamaiyas ( agricultural bonded labourers). Recently it has begun to expand its work to include peace and conflict resolution.
The organisation is working to promote:
- Human rights awareness; Income generation and skill training for freed Kamaiya and victims of the conflict;
- Informal education and scholarships for children of freed Kamaiyas and victims of the conflict;
- Training on conflict transformation and peace building; and
- Training on income generation and skill development.
HURADC works with the aim of enabling people to sustain themselves economically as it believes economic sustainability is an important element in sustaining peace.
HURADC has provided income generation and skill training programmes for conflict-affected and freed Kamaiya including women and informal education for children. Some men and women who were taught vegetable farming and barbering skills are now making their own livelihood, while children who received informal education are now in formal education.
