		<description>Respected Ma&#039;am/ Sir,

I am Erfaan Hussein Babak and I hope that u will be fine and enjoying
life .

I am a small social entrepreneur and runs a small NGO by the name of
&quot; The Awakening&quot; (A Society for Social &amp; Cultural Development), based
in Swat , KPK, Pakistan.

The foundation of “ The Awakening” (A Society for Social &amp; Cultural
Development) was laid in 2008 with a participatory and non-profit
motive. It has done all the activities on self help and self funded
basis when the situation in Swat got worsened “The Awakening” stopped
working due to severe threats to the NGO’s as it was considered that
the all the NGO’s were agents of west in Swat. “The Awakening” mainly
focus on issues related to the SISTERS of Swat and we want to bring a
social change regarding women human rights in Swat.

The main mission of “The Awakening” is to develop alternate leadership
of socially excluded portions (women) of the civil society from grass
roots level and enhance their will power and livelihood, to take up
responsibility by sharing of information and confirmation of
participation in decision making process at all level through
democratic methods for effecting social context and speeding up social
change”.
To work for women’s empowerment and citizens’ participation in
governance for creating a socially just, democratic and humane society
.Peace and Prosperity are promoted between people in co-existing
manners and working on reduction of extremism by initiating
peace-making, peace keeping &amp; peace building initiatives.

“The Awakening” started its mission as a grass root level organization
and started small activities from the initial level. During the
initial stage as a starter we took active part in a program titled
“End Violence Against Women” , we directed a theatrical play on the
curse of dowry.
As the time progressed “The Awakening” also started to think out of
the box and started to take pragmatic measures to work for the
prosperity of women of swat from the grass root level. With limited
self resources and dedicated staff members we started to form women
community based organizations on village level, but due to insurgency
by Taliban and the war we were not able to continue our social work in
the area as the brutality of Taliban set the whole District of Swat
ablaze. In the beginning only one women community based organization
was formed in the locality. Now gradually we have formed 6 women
community based organizations in District Swat and 7 in District
Malakand., and more are in the formation process .All the efforts of
“The Awakening” are self helped and participatory in nature. The women
of Swat has suffered a lot and they want to improve their conditions
and want to raise their voice , “The Awakening” is working to provide
their services and a platform in order raise the voice of all the
SISTERS of Swat. Besides this we have arranged training workshops for
females on the topic of Mother Child Health, free medical camps for
women and sessions on Health &amp; Hygiene Promotion for females. Along
with this we are forming Leadership Groups of Young Girls at each
School level, then all these Girls Leadership groups will be linked
into a district level network.
The women of Swat are silent partners in the development process.
Severely bounded by cultural constraints and prejudices, they lead
extremely excluded lives. Women have poor access to basic social
services, literacy rates among women are abysmally low, their mobility
is restricted to the boundaries of their houses and they are largely
prevented from taking part in major decisions affecting their families
and their communities. This is the generic context in which “The
Awakening” operates in Swat striving to reverse the trend in favor of
women’s development and empowerment. “The Awakening” believes that the
constraints facing women and the environment in which they live can
only be addressed if women are equipped with the tools that will
enable them to improve their own lives first. Our activities are
helping them to build their capacity in order to overcome all these
constraints.

We have adopted a participatory approach in the implementation of each
and every small to big activity, we involve the stakeholders in the
implementation process of the organization. We are working on to
develop a sense of ownership of responsibilities among the women of
Swat. The strategy is very simple ( The women own the responsibility
of the activity and work hard for the betterment of their society).
The women who have been a part of “The Awakening” activities are like
a part of a family that is growing faster like a tree and will achieve
its main goals very soon by the grace of God.

“The Awakening” is making progress and we are making linkages with
National and International Organizations who can support us to promote
our cause. Our upcoming interventions on which we have designed
projects for the upcoming years are (Mujhey Padhna Hai) Promote Girls
Education in Swat , Women Economic empowerment (women entrepreneurship
promotion) , Skill Development, Sustainable livelihood support
program, providing opportunities for the skill development of women
with disabilities (livelihood development), It is commonly found that
older people’s basic needs are typically overlooked and that they
experienced many barriers to accessing support and services.

“The Awakening” takes on board women from any sects, clan, religion,
culture, there are no constraints on such things, we are all together
as one and we want to work for the betterment and improvement of our
fellow SISTERS. We are also forming groups of women who have
disabilities and they are all a part of “The Awakening” efforts. “The
Awakening” is working on organizing the first ever women walk for
peace in District Swat in which the women from all the sects of the
society will be involved and especially the women with disabilities
will be an important component of the walk.

As in the past we have only focused on our activities and not on
getting some projects or linking up with donors, but we recently
designed a few projects regarding child labour , girls education,
Health , etc and we now are looking for linking up with donors who can
support our cause.
I need your kind support in this regard

Regards
