Founded in 1998, the Forum for Kalongo Parish Women Association (FOKAPAWA) was established with the aims of alleviating the condition of women and young people who have suffered so much as a result of the prolonged war in the Acholi region of Uganda. Women, children and young people had suffered most because of the war and yet their contribution to society is totally ignored. Many young people were forced to become combatants. Many women were raped, maimed, killed and forced to take up family roles that initially belonged to men. FOKAPAWA works to empower women and youth to utilise their potentialities. Peacebuilding is one of the core areas of FOKAPAWA’s work.
