The Paralegal and Human Rights Centre provides legal services, facilitates conflict resolution and spreads knowledge of human rights law and the benefits of the Sudan’s Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). The centre conducts seminars on the CPA which cut through the legal jargon and gives communities a chance to know the legal points the CPA refers to, especially laws which are intended to support local communities. They also aim to open links between communities and government. As lawyers, Paralegal Centre staff see themselves in a unique position to initiate dialogue with government and communicate the concerns of the people on matters relevant to law.

Conflict Resolution Between the Almalea and Almanadel Tribes

This initiative involved the Paralegal and Human Rights Centre facilitating a series of emergency meetings between government representatives and the leadership of the two tribes in order to end their recurring conflict over land use. Representatives from the centre spoke with all parties involved, community and tribal leaders, government officials and the local people directly involved in the conflict. Once an agreement was reached, the centre reinforced the idea of peace and conflict prevention with workshops on the rule of law and the benefits of the CPA
