Indo-Pak Youth Forum for Peace (IPYFP).
The idea for the Indo-Pak Youth Forum for Peace (IPYFP) came from the Indian and Pakistani delegates to the World Youth Peace Summit in Bangkok in February 2004. IPYFP aims to support those working and dreaming for peace in the world. It works at local, national and international levels with focus on the potential, ideas, strengths and networks of young people for generating awareness and taking action on peace, poverty eradication and development-related initiatives. The group has been contributing to the improvement of the lives of Indian and Pakistani young people with a view to enhancing the effectiveness of young and other actors in peacebuilding initiatives.
IPYFP encourages young people to invest their energies towards goal-oriented activities, avoiding social problems such as drug abuse, prostitution, rape, school dropout, and conscription into lawless fighting forces. This activities are vital at an individual level but also hope to contribute to lowering the brain drain affecting India and Pakistan.
In Pakistan, Youth Alliance for Human Rights (YAFHR) provides secretarial support to all the activities and programmes of Indo-Pak Youth Forum for Peace. Since 2005, the organisation has been running youth exchange programmes (‘Youth Peace Delegations’) between India and Pakistan as an attempt to bridge the cultural and religious divides that have been indoctrinated into young people as a by-product of the political disputes between the two countries. During the Thematic Youth Dialogues (YPD) activities of IPYFP, the staff and members of YAFHR visited various organisations and institutions in the region who favoured regionalism and regional peace to bring prosperity to South Asian societies.
After the great success of IPYFP’s ‘Youth Peace Delegations’ in recent years the organisation now plans to add some more components to further strengthen the work of our programme by initiating youth-to-youth dialogue in the following three thematic areas:
- Pakistan-India Young Business Entrepreneurs Dialogue;
- Intercultural & Interfaith Dialogue;
- and Pakistan-India Young Parliamentarians Dialogue.
