Corporación Nuevo Arco Iris (CNAI) is a Colombian non-governmental organisation which arose from the peace agreements signed between the Colombian State and a political organisation made up of ex-ELN combatants (Corriente de Renovación Socialista, CRS) in 1994. It actively promotes processes that contribute to the modernisation and democratisation of Colombia, ruling out armed violence as a path for political change and social transformation.

CNAI understands development and co-existence as the key ingredients for a lasting peace. Indeed, in one of its first engagements, it developed education, health, housing and employment projects for the reintegration into society of 800 ELN ex-combatants.

Mission

CNAI is a centre for the development of ideas, for research, and for social actions aimed at reconciliation. It formulates analysis, frames initiatives, and promotes actions related to armed conflict, peace, post-conflict, and security. Through the strengthening of both the State and civil society it aims to contribute towards the deepening of democracy and the construction of alternatives which can bring about social equality and development in Colombia.

Vision

The CNAI envisions that in 2015 it will be an institution recognised for its contributions to the construction of a project aimed at national reconciliation which promotes at its core the overcoming of the armed conflict, the deepening of democracy, and the guaranteeing of dignity for the victims of Colombia’s conflict.
