Established in 2006, the Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS) is an independent research centre based in Kabul and Kandahar province, Afghanistan. CAPS conducts action-oriented research aimed at influencing policy-makers in key areas including governance, security, development and peacebuilding.

With a primary focus on Afghanistan, CAPS works towards building local capacity to produce conflict and threat assessments. Their experts track and maintain data on crucial developments in Afghanistan and the surrounding region. CAPS is committed to offering and facilitating first rate research, training and knowledge exchanges on conflicts, people and cultures.

Dedicated to reducing the threat of violence, CAPS seeks to assist in the development of a sustainable environment that can support peace and stability.

The organisation’s primary goals are to build local capacity and expertise; facilitate the Afghan government in promoting better governance and state-building measures; and assist the international community in collaborating and coordinating perspectives on issues affecting Afghanistan. CAPS aims to combine these objectives in an effort to establish a sustainable framework for peace and stability in Afghanistan and the surrounding region.

To achieve its objectives, CAPS engages in three core activities: research and policy analysis; education and training; and capacity building and knowledge sharing.
