Civic (School of Democracy)
A series of workshops, lectures and other activities designed to encourage the emergence of a responsible leadership for Sudan.
Description
The School of Democracy training cycles include the following elements: the art of good governance, leadership, ethnicity, conflict transformation, theology of liberation, human rights, gender and development, and social change.
Aims / Objectives
- To make the population aware of potential sources of support in the outside world that they would not otherwise have approached;
- To begin the process of building a responsible Sudanese leadership with emphasis on
Southern Sudan; and - To inculcate a culture of honesty and hard work;
How it is articulated
It was articulated through workshops, trainings, lectures, counselling, advocacy and outreach activities including consultancy work.
Achievements / Learning Points
Since 2004, ten training cycles have been organised through School of Democracy, with several accompanying workshops and meetings.
Geographical area of operation
The activities take place in Khartoum with IDPs and other target groups. SONAD is also active in the southern states and the Nuba Mountains.
Funding resources
Human resources at SONAD, financial resources through membership and subscription fees and support from the Swedish Fellowship of Reconciliation (sweFOR) through the Swedish Mission Council (SMC) and the German Development Service (DED)/Khartoum.
