“Diversity in Our Community” promotes communication between children from Protestant and Catholic communities in Northern Ireland, and is aimed at the eight to eleven years age group. It aims to develop concepts of identity and difference as well as enabling lasting friendships between children of different backgrounds.

This initiative allows children to explore and develop their understanding of diversity and to be accepting of difference in their friendships.

The Koram Centre, a counselling provider, is offering an accredited course in solution focused counselling skills, open to professionals or volunteers working in the community. The aim is to support both individual and community healing through training people to promote positive relationship building and good mental health.

The Koram Centre is working with US universities to develop a model of transformative dialogue that is appropriate for Northern Ireland. Victims and survivors of the conflict, and representative groups, will have the opportunity to be involved in this process. Transformative dialogue is concerned with dealing with the past, mediation and negotiation.

This initiative faciliates dialogue between young political party activists aged 18-30. Participants join together in conferences to engage in discussion about human rights, enviromental, conflict and development issues. The initiative has encouraged the growth of mutual respect and interaction between young party members and the aim is that in the future, there will be better relationships between policy makers across the parties.

'Negotiating Change' responds to earlier research that identifies particular alienation faced by the Protestant community in Derry/Londonderry. The initiative seeks to find means of reconciliation and inclusion. It uses the research findings to identify particular sites of conflict and then responds appropriately using a wide variety of projects.

This initiative is part of a wider UK scheme which aims to promote best practice in human rights education for young people. Youth groups and schools undertake human rights projects which can then be submitted to a panel for an award. St Columb's Park House co-ordinates the scheme for Northern Ireland.
